Celebrate the Fourth of July at Freedom Daze 29, a music festival held July 4–6 featuring an amazing lineup of talent. With three days of live music, including performances by 20+ bands playing indoors at Freedom Plaza and 15+ bands playing at satellite stages across the city, plus an outdoor beer garden, food vendors, a pie-eating contest, and more, there's no better place to be than Twentynine Palms for Independence Day, and tickets are on sale now!
Family Fun
Pack those swimsuits and splash into summer at the newly renovated Luckie Park Pool, now featuring the High Desert's first public waterslide. The pool offers both public swim sessions and adult swim sessions, and before you young-at-heart adults have to ask, yes — you’re welcome to enjoy the waterslide alongside the little ones, too!
For indoor family fun, head on over to the Bowladium Family Fun Center for a little friendly competition and knock down some pins and throw some strikes on one of 16 lanes. For indoor family fun in the evenings, check out the Summer Movies Series, presented by the Parks & Recreation Department and now hosted indoors at the Twentynine Palms Community Center. Admission is free, and movie screenings begin at 8 p.m. And speaking of movies, the beloved Smith’s Ranch Drive-In is back, offering some old-fashioned fun and the chance to watch movies under the beautiful starry night sky.
Quirky Attractions
Housed in the oldest public building in the area, the Old Schoolhouse Museum provides visitors a chance to step back in time and experience a 1920s-era schoolroom, view artifacts, and explore exhibits pertaining to the rich history and culture of Twentynine Palms and the surrounding desert region.
For over 70 years, the 29 Palms Art Gallery has presented the best in High Desert art, offered innovative education programs, and provided an inclusive environment for local artists and creative members of the community. The gallery is housed in a 1930s-era historic adobe structure, with beautiful outdoor grounds featuring large-scale metal sculptures, native plants, and a large open patio with views of Joshua Tree National Park. Check out the latest monthly art exhibition and stay up to date on upcoming special events including art classes for youth and adults.
A visit to the outdoor grounds of the Glass Outhouse Art Gallery offers the treat of exploring an ever-evolving collection of playful and whimsical found-object art installations, and yes — there is an actual glass outhouse!
Sunrise Hikes & Night Bikes
Few experiences are as magical and memorable as watching the sunrise across the vast and beautiful desert, and Joshua Tree National Park features many stunning — and short — nature trails to explore this summer. If you're planning an excursion outdoors, keep it short and be prepared. Some of our favorite nature trails include the Oasis of Mara, Cap Rock, and the Cholla Cactus Garden — all offering stunning views and all under half a mile. Plan to be off the trails no later than 10 a.m., and if you’re looking to explore the park later in the day, wait until after 5 p.m. It’s recommended you carry four liters of water per person, and just as importantly, monitor that water supply while you’re out there! If you're looking for an activity for when the sun goes down, check out night bike rentals offered by High Desert Ebike Rentals. From 6 p.m. to 10 a.m. or from 6–10 p.m., riders can rent electric moped-style bikes to explore the desert with available roadside assistance. It's the adrenaline-packed adventure you need this summer!

Sign up for Cosmic Flow with The Moon + The Mat, which offers a nurturing journey through mindful movement, stillness, and connection to the astral realms. Connect deeply to the cycles of your life, nature, and the cosmos with the support of this practice, offered on Sundays all summer long! Build your strength, balance, and flexibility at Studio 29 Yoga and check out their great lineup of classes featuring everything from gentle yoga, Vinyasa, Yin, and strong flow — all led by expert instructors.

The fun doesn’t stop after dusk! Twentynine Palms knows how to have a good time and visitors will love our local bar offerings like Out There Bar, Virginian Cocktails, and Back Alley Cocktail Lounge. Play the slots or attend a show at Tortoise Rock Casino or see an open mic performance and play trivia at Grnd Sqrl while you indulge on a pint and join all the fun at FANS Sports Bar & Grill’s weekly karaoke night.
