As we all look for safe outdoor activities and experiences that allow us to maintain safe physical distancing, now is a great time to plan a self-guided tour of the city’s Oasis of Murals! Spend your 4th of July weekend exploring our collection of 20+ historic murals which tell rich history and culture of our desert community, and celebrate the beauty of the surrounding Mojave Desert.

Explore Joshua Tree National Park
Experience one of southern California’s most spectacular landscapes where the Mojave and Colorado deserts meet! All park entrances and visitor centers are open, and it will be a very busy weekend in Joshua Tree National Park. Expect all campgrounds to be full, and parking lots at the popular trails to fill up quickly. We strongly encourage you to plan your visit very early in the morning, or in the late afternoon, and to use the north park entrance in 29 Palms to avoid the long lines and congestion that builds at the west entrance in the town of Joshua Tree.
With temperatures for the weekend expected to be above 100 degrees Fahrenheit this weekend, please avoid strenuous hiking during the middle of the day and choose places within the park at higher elevations to explore. Carry a minimum of one gallon of water per person, per day, and drink often to avoid dehydration. Bring salty snacks to help your body replace electrolytes lost when sweating, and wear loose-fitting, light colored clothing. Hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen are also a must! Be sure to check the parks website for alerts before you go and recreate responsibly by following Leave No Trace principles!

Pick up a mid-day smoothie from Surf City Squeeze, and then head over to Rib Co. for dinner. And don’t forget to treat yourself to something sweet at Foster’s Freeze or Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory!
Many of our restaurants are offering local delivery through DoorDash or Postmates, making online ordering easy and efficient. Download the apps ahead of time and within a few minutes you’ll be able to have food and drinks from one of our many local eateries delivered right to your hotel or vacation rental!
Under the current state guidelines, you will find the bars in 29 Palms closed, and indoor dining at our restaurants restricted. Whether you’re looking to pick up a to-go order, or have food delivered, it’s always a good idea to call ahead as our restaurants are continuously implementing new safety measures and may make changes to their hours of operations. Shop the 29 Palms farmers market!
The 29 Palms weekly farmers market has now moved to the evenings and takes place from 5 – 9 PM every Saturday at Bucklin Park, at the corner of Hwy 62 and Desert Queen Ave in downtown 29 Palms. Stop by the market this holiday weekend and stock up on fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables, an assortment of baked goods, and fresh salsas, spreads, honey, nuts, and more!
You’ll also discover a wide variety of vendors selling locally crafted goods, and as a special treat for the 4th of July holiday, enjoy live music by Travis Knight! We urge everyone attending the market to do your best at maintaining safe physical distancing while shopping, and remind you that masks/face coverings are required.
Enjoy fireworks from the comfort and safety of your accommodations!
Thanks to MCCS 29 Palms, a special high-altitude fireworks show will be launching from the edge of the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center starting at 9 PM. This 4th of July fireworks show will be visible throughout our desert community, and is meant to be enjoyed from the comfort and safety of your home, or from the hotel or vacation rental you are staying at. Please note, base access will not be granted to unauthorized patrons.
