‘Sorry, You Missed the Sixties’, a pop-up exhibition of sixties photographs will kick off the grand opening of Desert General located in Twentynine Palms, a California’s Mojave Desert destination at the edge of Joshua Tree National Park.

Twenty-five iconic black-and-white photographs will be on display for three months, starting November 4th. They were shot by Hamburg-born Frank HABICHT, whose pictures reflect the spirit of the Swinging Sixties in London, and Philip TOWNSEND, known as ‘Mr. Sixties’ who captured the stars of the decade and produced the first professional photographs of the Rolling Stones.

Photography grew dramatically during the sixties. The decade was the last optimistic period of the 20th Century, a time when it was still possible to dream of the utopias that photographic publications could narrate and depict or satirize. The sixties witnessed the rise of magazines, propaganda, and advertising. Photo essays were bestsellers capable of shaping opinion on a wide range of issues.
