The Night Sky Festival celebrates Joshua Tree National Park’s night sky with a two-day event that includes activities for all ages.

Join us at Luckie Park in Twentynine Palms for the anticipated solar eclipse event. The special viewing will be from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Solar glasses will be available while supplies last. In the morning, visit Sky’s The Limit Observatory for a guided tour of the Orrery, a scale model of the solar system that is large enough to walk around and through. While there, stop at the solar telescope for a close-up look at the sun. Kids can participate in astronomy-themed crafts. Don’t forget to try your luck at panning for gold with First Class Miners, Inc. while you’re there.

The afternoon features a variety of astronomy lectures by knowledgeable presenters. Attendees can stop at the night sky “selfie” photo booth and various information tables, including the International Dark-Sky Association (IDA) and other supporting organizations. The event’s highlight is the Night Star Party, where attendees can see spectacular views of our desert night sky through 20+ available telescopes with help from astronomers. Listen as these experts explain what you are seeing. Enjoy live music, constellation tours, and storytelling throughout the evening.

Proceeds from this event support nonprofit organizations that provide educational programs.
