Emotional Transformation Through Sculpture With Workshop29
In this two-part sculpture workshop led by Jai Knight as part of the Workshop29 series, participants will use recycled paper to create vessels that symbolize our body’s experience through trauma. We will be working to transform literal and metaphorical “waste” by forming a relationship with it. Those interested in attending this workshop are invited to save and organize their paper waste by color (see guidelines for details) and to bring their old journal entries, or write down their intentions, which will be transformed into a receptacle.
As we all create our forms, we can see how we have been shaped by our experiences, and have the ability to grow and transform, finding wisdom within our process. The ancient art of papermaking evokes a slow meditative process, where we must be present with the materials at hand. This is the opportunity to introspect, and actively infuse the process with inner transmissions. These bowls will become lighting fixtures and be displayed as an installation at the final event symbolizing the insight that comes from slowing down and being with our own resiliency.
The first sculpture workshop will take place on Sunday, March 3 at 2 p.m. at the Twentynine Palms Community Center located at 6547 Freedom Way. The second workshop will take place on Sunday, March 10 at 2 p.m. The writing workshop is part of the Workshop29 event series, which is hosted by the Art In Public Places committee administered by the Public Arts Advisory Committee (PAAC).
