MORE ABOUT THE CALIFORNIA DESERT PROTECTION ACT
This fall marks the 25th anniversary of the California Desert Protection Act (CDPA) which is one of the region’s most important conservation laws. The CDPA catalyzed 25 years of desert conservation measures, which have brought enormous benefits to the region. It led to the creation of Joshua Tree and Death Valley National Parks, Mojave National Preserve, five national monuments, and millions of acres of public lands to be used specifically for recreation and protection of cultural, historical and biological treasures. These protected lands draw millions of visitors from all over the world each year, bolstering local economies and creating jobs.
This Fall, the City of 29 Palms is joining local businesses, conservation groups, community leaders and residents across the desert in a series of events celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the California Desert Protection Act (CDPA). This anniversary marks an important moment to appreciate the public lands we enjoy in the California desert, and recognize that without the last 25 years of desert conservation we might not be able to experience these areas as we do today!
