Mountain BikingMountain Biking in Joshua Tree National Park Mountain biking is for anyone with a yen to experience Joshua Tree National Park without being confined to the sensory derivation of a metal box. Riding within the park http://www.nps.gov/jotr/activities/biking/biking.html is restricted to roads open to vehicles. Many of these roads are paved, which may not be your first choice, but they lead to many scenic dirt roads with little traffic.
Park recommendations: http://www.joshua.tree.national-park.com/sights.htm for the most scenic dirt roads include Black Eagle Mine (9.0 miles), Covington Flats (3.8 miles), Geology Tour Road (18.0 miles) Old Dale (23.0 miles), Pinkham Canyon (a very challenging 20.0 miles) and the Queen Valley Tour (11.4 miles). Be sure to get a park map from this site to plan your trip beforehand.
The Singletrack Mind Mountain Bikers Seeking Higher Ground is an excellent web site to explore the Geology Tour Road & Queen Valley Loop before going. The site also provides maps of this particular area and an excellent photo gallery.
